The City of Portland Bureau of Transportation is preparing to re-open SW Sam Jackson Park Road slightly ahead of schedule after an eight-week project to repair an unstable hillside, replace a retaining wall, and rebuild the adjacent roadway. Transportation bureau to close SW Sam Jackson Park Rd. for major work

Portland Bureau of Transportation News Release - July 7, 2011

PORTLAND, Ore. - The City of Portland Bureau of Transportation is preparing for a retaining wall project on SW Sam Jackson Park Road that will close the road beginning Monday, July 11. This road is the primary, preferred access route to Oregon Health & Science University and Shriners Hospital for Children on Marquam Hill. Geotechnical engineers hired by the city believe that the heavy spring rains of 2011 have caused earth movement to accelerate and unless measures are taken to address this situation, the shifting hillside could cause the road to become unusable.
